11. Term and Termination

This Agreement shall continue for an initial term of two (2) years, automatically renewing for successive one-year terms unless either Party provides written notice at least thirty (30) days prior.

What counts as an action?

An action is any AI request our cloud handles for you - a chat message, a Return, or a step the agent takes on your behalf when it reads a related file, runs a tool, or refines its output. Most simple questions complete in one or two actions; complex multi-step research where the agent works through several documents will naturally use more. Local AI is always unlimited and never counts.

What happens after 500 actions?

Once you cross 500 actions in a month, we route you to a lighter model so you can keep working. Past 600, cloud AI pauses until your quota resets on the 1st - local AI keeps working the whole time, and there are never surprise charges. If you regularly need more headroom, the Counsel waitlist is built for that.

Do large documents use a lot of actions?

They can. A document too large to analyze in one pass is split into sections and each section is one action, so a long contract might cost several. You're never surprised: before it runs, Return shows an estimate (for example "~8-10 actions") and you accept the cost, or you don't run it. On the local engine it's always unlimited and free, so there's nothing to estimate - it just processes in as many parts as it needs.

How do I switch between cloud and local AI?

Settings → AI → toggle between Cloud and Local. Local mode uses Return's built-in engine on your machine - fully private, free, no quota. Cloud mode routes through Return's servers to Anthropic (Pro plan).

Is my data sent to your servers?

Only if you choose Cloud AI. In Local mode, nothing leaves your machine - your documents, prompts, and AI responses all stay on disk. Cloud requests proxy through Return's API to Anthropic; we don't train on your data and don't store conversation content beyond what's needed for billing aggregates.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from Settings → Subscription, or via the Paddle customer portal. You keep Pro access through the end of your current billing period, then auto-downgrade to Free (Local AI stays unlimited).
